_New York Family Law
We offer clients a full range of services in the family law area, from
simple uncontested divorces to complex marital property cases and
high-conflict custody and parenting disputes.
Our firm's family law practice focuses on complex child custody and parenting issues. We offer expertise in resolving international family law disputes negotiated and litigated in two or more jurisdictions. We are also adept at addressing property issues relating to complex financial structures, real estate, deferred compensation packages, trusts, limited partnerships, privately held companies, and professional practices and other high-income careers.
Our family law practice include following areas:
International Litigation
As part of our New York based practice, we work with attorneys around the world to resolve cross-border matrimonial disputes that are negotiated or litigated simultaneously in different countries. With the increasing mobility of families, it has more increasingly common that a family dispute is litigated in two or more states or countries. For instance, distribution of a couple’s marital property can be under New York’s jurisdiction while child custody issues have to be dealt by a French court that has proper jurisdiction as the children’s home state.
Ms. Kohtz has been called upon to provide expert opinions and testimonies on New York law, Chinese family law, immigration law, and private international law.
From our legal and life experience, we have a firm grasp of the particular goals and needs of each individual or family living internationally. With extensive knowledge and experience in international law and US law, we deliver effective and responsive legal services tailored to meet the unique needs of migratory families and individuals.
As population mobility increases, so too does number of cross-border family disputes that may be litigated in US courts and foreign courts. Such disputes often involve complicated facts and complex, sometimes novel legal questions. We have the unique skills that our clients can count on to prevail in international litigation:
[Note: In many countries, attorneys are licensed to practice law by a national authority and can practice law nation wide regardless of which locality the attorney's office is situated. However, in the United States an attorney obtain a license from by each state where he/she is practicing law. Our litigation practice is therefore restricted within New York State, except when specifically permitted by a court of another jurisdiction. If your case has no connection with New York, you should always seek an attorney licensed to practice law in your state or your country. We will work with your local attorneys when our service and expertise are needed.]
